The Opportunity

Fisher Phillips is an international labor and employment law firm, and we are looking for an experienced Litigation Secretary to support the needs of our San Diego office. Position Responsibilities

  • Prepare and format briefs, pleadings, correspondence and other legal documents.
  • Prepare and process new client/matter requests.
  • File legal documents with state and federal courts (electronic and traditional filings).
  • Regularly and accurately proofread all documents to ensure accuracy and completeness prior to distribution or filing.
  • Update and maintain client files, including electronically in document management system.
  • Maintain attorney calendars through Outlook and CompuLaw (i.e. scheduling appointments, calendaring due dates, etc.).
  • Arrange meetings and conference calls; may order meals, refreshments, and equipment as requested.
  • Coordinate travel arrangements for assigned attorneys.
  • Accurately enter, review and revise timekeeper time entries including consistent identification of litigation codes, when applicable.
  • Prepare expense reimbursement requests for assigned attorneys in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Review and ensure accuracy of vendor invoices; prepare accurate check requests and timely submit invoices for payment to client or accounting.
  • Provide assistance to visitors, paralegals and attorneys whose secretaries are absent, and accept overflow work from other secretaries.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required (college degree is preferred, but not required).
  • Five years of experience as a litigation legal secretary required; labor and employment experience is preferred, but not required.
  • Ability to accurately format documents which adhere to firm standards for format, style and quality, including table of contents and table of authorities.
  • State and federal court filing experience (manual and electronic).
  • Follow instructions; complete tasks on time; commit to the hours necessary to complete assignments; work independently; availability to work overtime as needed.
  • Technical Skills: Strong skills in MS Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint; ability to use phone system, copier, scanner, fax, and printer. iManage (or other comparable document management system), CompuLaw (Aderant knowledge is a plus).

The hourly base rate range for this position is $ 47.69 - $48.50. Actual base pay within this range will be determined by several components, including but not limited to, relevant experience, internal equity, skills, qualifications, and other job-related factors permitted by law.
