AI Prototyping Engineer

Department: Information Technology
Location: Atlanta, GA

(Atlanta, Full-time/Hybrid)

Fisher Phillips, a premier international labor and employment law firm, is seeking an AI Prototyping Engineer to join our team. In this key role, you will help advance the firm’s AI and innovation initiatives while contributing to the seamless delivery of our services, supporting exceptional client service, and maintaining our commitment to excellence.

Position Summary

The AI Prototyping Engineer builds working applications and technical proofs of concept that test how AI can improve the firm’s work. The engineer connects approved models and data sources, creates usable interfaces, and evaluates whether a concept is reliable enough for a pilot. This role works closely with the TIP Director and Workflow and Automation Specialist to deliver small, testable solutions quickly.

Key Responsibilities

  • Build functional AI prototypes, including assistants, document extraction tools, knowledge retrieval experiences, and workflow applications using approved platforms.
  • Develop lightweight interfaces and services in Python, JavaScript, TypeScript, or comparable tools; connect approved systems through APIs and other supported integrations.
  • Design prompts, structured outputs, and retrieval from approved sources. Build tool-using workflows where appropriate, with defined permissions and human review points.
  • Use synthetic or approved sample data for early tests. Implement access controls, secure credential handling, and logging suited to each prototype’s scope.
  • Create representative test sets and repeatable evaluations for accuracy, unsupported outputs, failure handling, response time, and cost. Record limitations and changes between versions.
  • Use AI-assisted development tools to accelerate work while reviewing generated code and testing the behavior that matters to users.
  • Demonstrate working software frequently, investigate technical blockers, and refine prototypes in response to user feedback and evaluation results.
  • Maintain version-controlled code and reusable components. Document setup, dependencies, data flows, test results, and the work needed for a supported production service.

Requirements

  • Practical software development experience and examples of working applications; ability to build a small solution across its interface, logic, and data connections.
  • Hands-on experience with language model APIs or enterprise AI platforms, prompt design, structured data, and retrieval from source material.
  • Working knowledge of APIs, authentication, databases, source control, debugging, and automated testing.
  • Ability to balance speed with clear scope and maintainable code, explain technical tradeoffs, and collaborate with nontechnical users.

Preferred Experience

  • Experience with professional services workflows, document processing, enterprise identity systems, cloud environments, and evaluations of AI output.
  • Relevant education or equivalent project experience is welcome.
